More about Jodie Black:
I’ve been teaching the primary grades for 30 years.  I have been teaching kindergarten for the last 19 years, the previous 9 in an All Day Tuition based program at Rollan Melton Elementary School in Reno, Nevada.  I have a Master’s of Education in Elementary Education.  I have my National Board Certification in early Childhood Education.  I renewed my NBC in 2011.  I was the co-director of the Northern Nevada Writing Project for 5 years.  I coordinated the Pinon Poetry Festival in Reno for 6 years.  I coordinated the “6 by 6 Traits Guide for Little Writers.”  The “6 by 6 Guide” plus many other lessons I have written can be found on  I have been the Reno Gazette Journal’s Best in Education Kindergarten Teacher.  In 2008-9, I was part of the NELIP Writing Consortium teaching from Lucy Calkins’ program, “Units of Study.”  To access only my online work specifically about Writer's Workshop for Kindergartners go to:
